NaNoWriMo Day Two – A Tip from Your Uncle Jeff

I don’t intend on providing a tip every day, but this is an important one.

When in doubt, there is only thing that you need to remember.  Come closer.  No closer.  This is important.  I’ll break it down in case it’s too much for you.

1. You are a writer.
2. Writers write.

That’s it.

Now go put pen to paper, fingers to keyboard, or record your story into one of those ultra-hip voice recognition systems that will take your tale of unrequited hillbilly love and turn it into beatnik poetry.

Do not settle on just one form of expression.  Use everything at your disposal: Descriptions, dialog, showing, telling, and character exposition.  This is your shot.  Being a one trick pony with the latest poetic tempo that you’ve “discovered” isn’t going to do it.  You are going to need every last weapon in your arsenal to make your novel pop.

Now drop and give me 1,667.
