An Insider’s View of the Publishing Industry: Pimp My Novel

I’m just taking it easy tonight catching up on my online reading and see from my Google Reader that I’ve been spending a heck of a lot of time over at the Pimp My Novel blog frequently these days.

What I like best about it as a (relatively) new writer is how Eric (the blog’s author and publishing insider), demystifies the life of a book once the author finishes writing.  My favorite series of posts was on how publishers figure out the Profit & Loss statement for a book.  It might be the most technical post, but it really provides some good insight on the economics of publishing.

Another winning series of posts covers genre sales which was a real eye opener, as I never really considered how different genre markets are faring in this tough economy.

Whether you’re just looking to get your feet wet in publishing or need an overview of the current state of the market, you can’t go wrong by checking out Pimp My Novel.
