When I'm hiring someone, I'm initially interested based on what is on the candidate's resume, but ultimately, I'm hiring based on the attitude that they bring to the interview process and my understanding of how quickly they can adapt to new situations.

In my experience, candidates who have transferable skills or who have demonstrated a leap between industries based on transferrable skills tend to have an easier time when it comes to handling new situations or growing past any expectations that I place on them at the onset of us working together.

While my experience is largely in software product management, I can see how this could apply equally well across other disciplines.
